For those following the UCI BSU’s AntiBlackness Campaign, some outcomes have already come to pass!
Following one of our demands, a Black centered retention plan has been installed and will be enacted in the upcoming school year! There will be a new course directed specifically towards Black freshman and transfer students (“those interested in the African diaspora”) to help their transition once officially onto campus. This gives an even greater strength to work of the Black Student Union.
There is also a new position in the UCI Student Outreach and Retention (SOAR) Center that will be working with BSU in order to protect and aid UCI Black students, while also fortifying our SOAR Center.
As far as an official punitive policy and our other demands, there is still much work to be done. We are continuing to work as a community and transitioning board to see through our desired policies.
Thank you so much to all the communities who expressed support during our time of need. We are appreciative of all efforts that were made, seen and unseen. We will continue to work hard with and for our communities both on and off campus.
"While there is racism, we will not rest."
If you are interested in running please fill out an application and submit to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5/31 (5 PM) in order to be officially considered.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to ask anyone on board!
